Does your dog hate going to the vet?

Your dog has to have a visit to the vet office and you have been dreading it for weeks now. Last time you went, they had to put a muzzle on them because they were “too aggressive”. Or your vet may have provided some oral sedation prior to arriving, but it never seems to work. Does this sound familiar? You are not alone!

We encounter a lot of dogs who have been kicked out of clinics because they were too aggressive and the staff wasn’t able to touch them. We specialize in these kinds of cases.

We don’t believe in using muzzles on “aggressive” dogs. Dogs are often labeled very quickly as aggressive in clinics, but it is often only fear that is driving that aggression. Take away that fear (different smells & sounds, strangers trying to do weird things to them, etc.). Muzzles definitely have their place in emergency situations, or if they are trained to wear one, but they more often than not cause more distress for your dog! If your dog has never been trained to wear a muzzle, we will not use one. There are other techniques we use to help alleviate your dog’s stress.

Providing the option of a mobile vet visit for your dog could change your life in regard to all of the stress that it causes to go into a clinic. You can now get everything done in the comfort of your own home, and your dog will do so much better there!

Mobile veterinary care is the way of the future

Here are some of the reasons why you should choose a mobile vet:

  1. Comfort and convenience for you and your pet

Imagine not ever having to sit in a waiting room while your dog gets increasingly more anxious. Never see your dog get scared and aggressive for a vet visit. We have been able to take dogs who have never been able to be vaccinated or even examined, to taking treats and accepting procedures in their own homes. Sometimes a little pre-visit sedation or gentle injectable sedation is all the magic that they need to volunteer for procedures and not care about what is happening. If sedation for your dog has not worked in the past, you may be surprised on how well it works within their own environment with no extra stressors!

2. More time with the vet to answer all your questions

You no longer have only 15 minutes with the vet! You have 60 minutes to have all of your questions and concerns answered about your pet. This also gives us the time to allow your dog to get used to us in their home. You will get a more personalized veterinary experience where you can create a relationship with the same veterinarian for all of your pet’s appointments. You and your dog are our number one priority and you get the vet team’s undivided attention while they are with you.

3. Your dog is never brought to “the back”.

Most pets do their best when they are with their parents and in the comfort of their own home. We will do everything right in front of you and at your dog’s pace. We have created our appointment times to reflect that. If they are really nervous, we don’t even touch them for at least 10-15 minutes while they acclimate to our presence in your home. A discussion of your dogs health and lifestyle, questions and concerns you have will help the vet team understand your dogs’ health needs better.

4. Have multiple pets?

Do you have multiple pets that you have to try to get into the car to go to the vet clinic? Good news! There is a better way! How about, instead, you just stay home, drink a beverage of your choosing and wait for the vet to come to you!

5. More accurate results

Stress can release certain hormones that can affect the results of blood tests and blood pressure readings when your dog is in clinic. Stress can also mask any pain symptoms that your dog may be having, making it difficult to diagnose, and requiring a lot of educated guesswork. When vet appointments are done in your own home, your dog will have much less stress which can result in more accurate results.

6. Mobile does not mean limited

We can do almost anything that a regular brick-and-mortar vet clinic can do. Your dog can receive:

  • Annual vaccines and health check

  • Bloodwork, urinalysis, and cytology

  • Small lump removals and laceration repairs

  • Blood pressure and blood glucose readings

  • Nail trims, ear cleaning, mat removals

  • Sedation

  • On-site pharmacy

  • Microchipping

  • Euthanasia and quality of life assessments

  • Online boutique to purchase food, toys, and treats

There are a couple of things we are unable to do as mobile vets, but we have multiple clinics that we work with that we can refer you to if any of these procedures are needed.

  • Xrays

  • Spays/neuters or any major surgery that requires a general anesthetic

  • Dentals

We would love the opportunity to help you and your dog have a more positive experience with a vet. Give us a call today to book your mobile vet appointment.
